What do I need to bring with me when my dog is at Playful Paws?

The only thing you need to bring is food.

Although we have plenty of mats, blankets and beds, some boarders are more comfortable with an item from home. If that’s the case, please have it clearly labeled and mention it at drop off.

My flight was delayed! What will happen to my dog?

We know that life gets in the way of plans sometimes. No problem here. Your dog will be provided with the same care it has been receiving. We ask that you let us know ASAP so that we can make any arrangements necessary to keep all our guests comfortable.

Additional fees may apply.

I’d like to pick my dog up from boarding after business hours. Is that possible?

We try very hard to accommodate all special requests. If you find yourself in this situation, please contact us ASAP so that we can try to make it work.

Will my dog be in a cage at night?

Playful Paws discourages the use of cages. We find that dogs feel more comfortable and safe when in an environment similar to home. If your dog is better suited for a cage, please request that at drop off.

What will my dog eat while at Playful Paws?

We ask all dog owners to provide their own food. This reduces the risk of gastrointestinal distress. Please plan to leave extra food in case your plans get delayed.

My dog has dietary restrictions. Is that a problem?

Not at all! Since all owners provide their own food, your pup will follow his regular diet. Although this will be reviewed upon registration, it would be prudent to make sure that the staff is aware of any medical issues at drop off.

All dogs also have their own cubby where their personal supplies are kept!

My dog has special needs. Can he stay at Playful Paws?

Of course! Our staff is trained to handle all types of dogs. Upon registration, any special needs will be discussed and reviewed.

My dog is on medication. Can he stay at Playful Paws?

Yes! We are able to administer medication prescribed by a vet (as long as it can be delivered orally).

I own a Pit Bull. Can she stay at Playful Paws?

Absolutely! At Playful Paws, we do not discriminate against any breed, size, age or disability. Unless there is a compelling reason, all dogs are mixed and socialized throughout the day. As long as your dog has fulfilled the requirements (temperament test and health form) she is welcome to come and play or stay!

Can I call to check on my dog?

Of course! Since we have staff on the premises 24 hours a day, you can check in on your pup at any time. If no one answers the phone, it means that they are tending to one of our guests and they’ll get back to you shortly.

We also post pictures on our social media sites on a regular basis. Check them out!

What do you do to make sure my dog will be safe?

We start by making sure that all dogs are screened by our temperament test, have all their shots and are otherwise healthy.

Our grounds and indoor facility are inspected and maintained daily for anything that may pose a threat to anyone’s safety. We have installed extra high fencing, locked gates and created an “airlock” by the entrance to prevent an escape.

Since heat is always a concern, we maintain a dual redundant air conditioning system in our indoor facility so that we can assure a climate controlled resting, feeding and boarding area. We also have a pool, plenty of areas shaded by trees and fresh water bowls all around.

In addition, the dogs are supervised by our handlers constantly. Any dog that plays too aggressively or gets over-excited can be moved to a different fenced-in playing field.

I don’t typically use flea & tick prevention. Now what?

To ensure the health and safety of all, it is a requirement of Playful Paws that all dogs are on a regular flea & tick prevention program.

Will my dog get fleas?

Fleas and ticks can be gotten anywhere. To ensure the health and safety of all, it is a requirement of Playful Paws that all dogs are on a regular flea & tick prevention program. We are counting on the honesty and vigilance of all dog owners to fulfill that requirement.

For our part, we have an exterminator regularly inspect and treat the premises.

What happens if my dog gets sick or injured while at Playful Paws?

Prevention is the best protection against injury or illness. We do our best to make sure all dogs are healthy upon arrival. Of course, just like children, illness and injury can happen at any time. In that rare event, we first contact the owner. If possible, the dog will be taken to the owner’s vet. If not, we will bring him to our regular vet, Dr. Tanko, who is located minutes away. We also have relationships with 24 hour emergency vets in case of an incident after hours.

Do you have an on-call veterinarian?

We have a long-standing relationship with Dr. Tanko, who is located minutes away. We also work with 24 hour emergency vets in case of an incident after hours.

If my dog has to go to the vet while at Playful Paws, who pays for it?

Playful Paws is not responsible for any medical expenses.

Do the dogs ever fight?

Even the most loving, mild-mannered dog can be in a bad mood. Our handlers are trained to watch for signs that may lead to a fight – tiredness, illness, sleepiness, anxiety, etc. Preventative measures, such as separation and watching for tell-tale signs, usually does the trick!

What vaccinations are required?

All dogs must be vaccinated for Bordatella, Distemper, Rabies and have a negative fecal exam. We also highly recommend a Canine Influenza vaccination.

Do you offer training classes?

At this time we only offer private training lessons.

Do you have grooming services?

We do not have a groomer on staff. Our specialty is on fun and safety. A bath can be provided before pick up at a minimal extra charge.

Can my dog get bathed before I pick him up?

He sure can. We charge $20 - $40 for a shampoo bath (price depends on the size and coat of the dog).    We provide a quick hose-off and toweling as a courtesy, free of charge!

Does Playful Paws give back to the community?

Yes we do! Playful Paws donates to animal welfare organizations including: Paws for Hope, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, The Humane Society, as well as our local shelters.

We also assist local community members in finding foster families for dogs that are waiting to be adopted.

Does Playful Paws accept volunteers?

Due to liability and insurance regulations, Playful Paws can not accept volunteers.
